Monte News - 26 to 31 Jan 2013 Douglas Anderson Next year’s Glasgow Start will be organised by the same team who made the 2012 Start in Clydebank such a success. It will be great to have them all back on board for 2013. Once again I have been asked by the Automobile Club de Monaco to take on the role of Co-ordinator for the Start and UK leg of the Rallye Monte Carlo Historique. My Deputy will be Brian Telfer – he will also be Chief Marshal. His Deputy Chief Marshal will be Janet Garner. The Scrutineer for the third year, will be Ian Higgins. Ian will once again be supported by his wife Catherine. Jonathan Lord and George Donaldson will be our Motor Sport Advisors. The plan is for the Start to be at Blythswood Square, with the Blythswood Square Hotel being Rallye HQ as in 2011. I have managed to negotiate an earlier Start time of 3pm with ACM so that the crews can have a decent night’s sleep in Dover at the end of the UK Leg. We are also planning to develop the Monte Heritage Run by offering a range of destinations on the UK Leg of the Rallye Route. As before the Heritage Run will leave from the Start Ramp after the Monte Carlo competitors. They will be cheered on their way by the thousands of spectators who make it a truly memorable occasion. If the past two years are anything to go by, the atmosphere will be fantastic. The ‘Winter Run to the Sun’ which was announced last month has had an excellent response and I will be sending out a separate newsletter to all of those who have expressed an interest in this unique event. PS I have bought myself another Triumph for next year’s event. I have moved up market and splashed out on a Mk 1 1965 Triumph Vitesse. The Triumph enthusiasts among you will be well aware that next year is the 50th anniversary of the memorable year that a team of 3 Triumph Vitesses entered the Monte Carlo Rally and all finished. I believe that they won a team prize – if I am wrong in this I am sure there is an ‘anorak’ will put me right. The car is now being turned into a Works Lookalike. If we could have another 2 powder blue Vitesses, we could make up a team! I am hoping to have the car finished this year, long before the Start – not the night before.
