Hi Everyone, I am David Gray, Club Chairman of Ayrshire Classics. I am sorry that my first posting on this excellent forum brings bad news for us all. I received our club entry form for this years Biggar rally, a fantastic event we have attended for the past few years, unfortunatley this year they have imposed a new rule that ALL VEHICLES ATTENDING MUST BE REGISTERED PRIOR TO DECEMBER 1975!!
This will have a huge effect on the members of A/C and i'm sure on other clubs as well. I believe the Biggar foundation need to cut numbers as the event is now so popular however, I personally think this date is too early to be fair to a lot of classic enthusiasts. So what i would like to do is petition the secretary of the Biggar foundation for a rethink of the date to perhaps 1980?? However to be effective i think that all the clubs need to get together and show their dissapointment en -mass to hopefully get a review of this decision. I would appreciate if other club officials contact me on ayrshireclassics@tiscali.co.uk if you are interested in joining our petition. Thanks, David.

Davy ,You can add TEC to your Petition list,as some of our members up here have Late 70s to 80s cars. Had a word with Debs on the phone and she agreed with me to add TEC to your list Big Al

That is just stupid to do that 1975 is far to low a date.
Personally I do not think a date should be introduced as some cars like my own started production in 1975 and you can get 1983 cars and there is no difference on the car that an untrained eye can spot.

I have thought about this and I want to reword what I said before thats why I have taken it off. Having now learned more about this show knowing that they start off their entry's from the early 1900s I would want a cut off date to. So no matter what date they picked someone wouldn't be happy.
But when would you say was a right cut off for any car to attend a show. The Toyota Enthusiasts to this day still get people saying that Toyota's are not classic. So we cant win. The first Toyota was imported into the UK in 1966. Debs

Generally speaking insurance companies will insure a car as a classic as long as it's 15 years old or more so thats good enough for me but there will always be exceptions. As for shows in general, although there might be a cut off date for entries, club stands are usually exempt but Biggar has made the exemption across the board. I can understand Biggar trying to control entries as it's such a popular event but i still can't fathom why 1975 unless they deliberatley want to exclude 'modern' classics.

As far as Marina Ecosse was concerned we were told that it was only because they were hosting the champion of champions event and thought it would be busier........so to hell with us who have supported it for years and bought their raffles etc. I know for a fact there were plenty post 75 cars at Biggar last year as my son took the reg. numbers. As far as I am aware it is back to the usual this year............so do we boycott it..... ?
